Hotel rooms

Another 97 hotel rooms could be on their way to Lathrop, adding to the growing number of businesses looking to expand along the I-5 corridor.

On Wednesday, May 18, the Lathrop Planning Commission will consider an application for a conditional use permit and site plan review that would allow a TownePlace Suites by Marriott to open on Golden Valley Parkway – the second on the west side of the I- 5.

The first hotel on the west side of I-5 – a Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott – is already under construction.

The Planning Commission meets the third Wednesday of each month inside the Council Chambers of Lathrop City Hall – located at 390 Towne Center Drive – at 6 p.m.

According to the application under review, the building would have four stories and cover 53,493 square feet – including 97 bedrooms, a lobby and breakfast room, an open-air patio lounge with a sports court, a swimming pool and a spa, barbecue area, and fitness center.

The hotel is part of a growing class of facilities aimed at “productivity-oriented business travelers” as well as leisure guests, and there are 470 TownePlace Suites locations across three continents.

Rooms inside the hotel will consist of 44 king rooms and 53 double queen rooms, and will range in size from 326 square feet to 547 square feet. Approximately 28% of the total plot will be landscaped – almost double the 15% requirement – and there will be a total of 103 parking spaces to accommodate one space per room plus one space for each employee.

If approved, the hotel will join the Fairfield Inn and Suites and a Tru by Hilton across the freeway as new lodging facilities that have been approved and added to the city in recent years. Lathrop’s position at the confluence of I-5 and the Highway 120 Bypass and its proximity to the I-205 Bay Area entrance make it an ideal location for travelers and those do business in the region.
