April 2022 preview: Over 40,000 hotel rooms expected to debut [Infographic]

Digging through the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database, we identify 223 significant hotel projects slated for completion in April.

A total of 43,571 new rooms are expected to debut worldwide in the coming month, with a particular influx of openings in Europe.

Global hotel growth

Of the 223 hotel openings scheduled for April 2022, 88 properties, with a total of 18,526 rooms, are in the five-star category and 135 hotels comprising 24,945 rooms are four-star.

No less than 87 of these hotels, or 14,415, are opening in Europe and 55 hotels with a total of 9,842 rooms are expected to debut in North America. APAC will see the arrival of 46 hotels and 10,134 rooms, while the Middle East will welcome 19 hotels with 5,545 rooms in total. Added to this are 14 hotel openings and 3,205 rooms in Africa and two additional hotels with 330 rooms in Latin America.

The countries with the most openings are the United States with 44 openings and 8,088 new rooms, the United Kingdom with 20 new hotels comprising 3,356 rooms and Germany with 14 new hotels comprising 2,338 rooms.

London is the city with the most hotels nearing completion with nine properties and 1,503 planned. Dubai will see the arrival of eight hotels and a total of 2,316 rooms and Nashville is expected to welcome three hotels totaling 942 rooms.

Among the most notable hotel brands are Hilton Garden Inn, which sees the completion of seven projects and 1,401 rooms; Hampton by Hilton, which is about to launch six properties with 1,129 rooms; and Voco, which will mark the opening of five 810-room hotels.

Notable arrivals in the United States and Portugal

Particularly notable openings in April include the Hard Rock Hotel New York and the Hyatt Regency Lisbon.

The five-star, 446-key Hard Rock Hotel New York is set to open in midtown Manhattan at 159 West 48th Street. The newly built hotel will feature rooms and suites with floor-to-ceiling windows, including the Rock Star Suite on the 34th floor, with interiors by award-winning design firm Jeffrey Beers International bringing the music-inspired vision to life.

Highlights of this space embellished with musical memorabilia include dining concepts such as the upscale NYY Steak launched in partnership with the New York Yankees, rooftop bar RT60, the brand’s Sessions Restaurant & Bar, and The Venue on Music Row for the performances.

Additional amenities here will then include the brand’s signature Rock Om program fusing yoga with a custom DJ-curated soundtrack.

The five-star, 200-key Hyatt Regency Lisbon then opens just a five-minute drive from historic downtown Lisbon. The new construction is designed by architecture firm METRO URBE, with interiors by Seeds Design and Studio MHNA.

Designed for both business and leisure travelers, the hotel will feature food and beverage concepts including a rooftop terrace bar, courtyard and garden, swimming pool and spa, flexible space for working and meeting and event space.
