A look into the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that Qatar’s hotel market is set to grow rapidly in the coming years, especially in the luxury segment.
Currently, there are 46 hotel programs with 12,999 rooms in Qatar’s pipeline, according to our researchers. We take a closer look at some of the more notable openings on the horizon.
Distribution year by year of Qatari hotel projects
By the rest of 2021, 22 launches are expected to put 5,646 new rooms into play.
Another 17 projects with 5,677 rooms are on the cards to be completed by 2022, while 2023 currently looks very quiet, with just one 200-room project expected to be ready within the year. In 2024 and beyond, six new hotels and 1,476 keys are already on the country’s development list.
Of the 46 new hotels in Qatar, 19 will belong to the four-star segment and the other 27 to the luxury category.
In terms of cities, Doha will see by far the greatest number of new openings. The capital can look forward to welcoming 35 hotels with 9,154 rooms in the years to come. Lusail, the planned coastal town a short drive north of Qatar, will receive nine new properties with 3,631 keys.
Hotel openings to watch in Qatar
Corinthia Hotels is the fastest growing brand in the country, with two new hotels and 310 rooms on the way, according to our data. Nevertheless, several other well-known brands also have exciting plans for Qatar.
The Raffles Lusail Hotel & Residences, for example, will open in early 2022. This landmark program will be part of a dual-branded property alongside the Fairmont Lusail Hotel & Residences, with the duo sharing the breathtaking Katara Towers. At Raffles’ latest outpost, 181 luxurious rooms, suites and residences will offer guests glorious sea views and access to a host of lifestyle amenities like water parks, a man-made beach and sprawling gardens .
Back in the capital, the 235-key ME Doha will be launched in late 2021 as part of the mixed-use DohAlive project. The hotel will offer business and convention facilities, a fitness center and a spa with an infinity pool overlooking the city skyline. Three restaurants, a discotheque, an open-air cinema and three bars will also be installed within the property.
Finally, and located near the coast of Doha, the Al Mana Edition Hotel West Bay will offer 200 rooms spread over floors 19 to 47 of a 48-storey tower. Edition Hotels, the brainchild of hospitality visionary Ian Schrager and Marriott International, plans to incorporate an impressive range of facilities, including restaurants, shops, a swimming pool, meeting rooms and ballrooms. .
